Why Do We Overestimate Our Looks?
Rating yourself on a scale of 1-10 can be tricky. If you've seen many rating videos, you might notice something interesting: most people rate themselves a 7. What's funny is that many of these people say 7 is "average." But that's not right - on a 1-10 scale, the real average is 5.5, not 7!
This isn't just happening in videos. It's actually a common thing in psychology called the "above-average effect." Basically, most people tend to think they're better than average in many areas, including how they look.
There might be another reason why people often choose 7. It could be because they want to seem modest but still feel good about themselves. Saying you're a 10 might seem too boastful, while rating yourself below 5 might seem too negative. So, 7 becomes a safe choice - it's high enough to feel good, but not so high that it seems like bragging.
But, I think that if you want to rate yourself easily, you should use these three levels instead -
SUB, AVERAGE, and ATTRACTIVE.
All you have to do is - be brutally honest 🙃
