Stop The Lies! Not Everyone is Good Looking…
Is "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" true, or is it just something we say to make people feel better?
To be honest, it's probably just something we say to be nice. This saying, while meant to be kind, doesn't really match up with reality.
To judge beauty fairly, we need to look at people without knowing anything about them. This means we're only judging based on how they look.
Think about seeing a stranger in a coffee shop. You don't know them, haven't talked to them, and don't know anything about their personality. You're only judging them on how they look.
To show that we all have similar ideas about beauty, I've made a simple test.
In this test, I'll show you some pictures of faces. Your job is to put each face into one of three groups: "below average," "average," or "attractive." This easy grouping will help show how we often agree on who is attractive.
You had just successfully and accurately categorized these faces according to their level of attractiveness. Now, if you had known them personally, your rating of them might change. Just like someone who is physically attractive can be rated poorly because of their awful personality. (ex. Amber Heard) . However, this goes against what we are considering here. We are solely judging a person based on their physical appearance. And let’s be honest, Amber Heard, minus the personality, is really attractive.
So what do you think? Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder?
